Teacher In-Service Training

A less comprehensive version of our Teacher Recertification Course, Teacher In-Service Training is available as either a half-day or full-day event.  Teachers and counselors are provided with the same information regarding the structure and scoring of the ACT, PSAT/NMSQT, and SAT as students receive during our In-School Seminars, as well as strategies for implementing that material in the classroom.  We also offer insight into the college admissions process, particularly focusing on how teachers and guidance counselors can play an important role in guiding students towards post-secondary success.

Specifically for guidance counselors, we also offer the opportunity to participate in the application evaluation process as a member of a mock admission committee.  During this training program, counselors are guided through 4 full-length Common Application examples, learning the thought process of admission counselors as they decide whom to admit, deny, defer, or wait-list.

Teacher Recertification Course

SC Test Prep believes that sharing our methods, experience, and resources with others is one of the most effective ways of accomplishing our mission and enriching our communities’ futures.  Because of their vital own role, teachers, counselors, and administrators are uniquely positioned to make a positive impact on students’ educational, professional, and financial success.

To better enable them to do so, we provide several opportunities for educators to gain the specific skills and tools needed to assist their students in the journey towards college admission and scholarship.  Our Teacher Recertification Course is one of those opportunities.

During the course, topics covered include:

  • An overview of standardized testing (ACT, PSAT/NMSQT, and SAT)

  • The integration of test preparation with the classroom curriculum

  • The college admission process (including a how-to guide to well-written recommendation letters)

  • The role of the classroom teacher in helping each student find the “best fit” college or university for them

Each Teacher Recertification Course contains 32 hours of instruction time with 8 hours reserved for a course project.  It can be taken for 40-60 recertification points through your district office.

Through grant funding and corporate sponsorships, the course is offered each summer at no cost to a limited number of participants.  Contact us today to discuss scheduling and availability.
